[Fiction Express] English Reading Levels (ELT)
Fiction Express ELT organises its books by levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).
The books are divided into three main levels, each with two sublevels covering A2 to C1. This makes it possible to adapt readings and activities to each student’s language level and track their progress in learning English.
🗂️ Level Structure
| Level | Sublevels | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | A2 / A2+ | Accessible readings that use basic structures. Designed for students at early learning stages. A2 is a simpler version; A2+ includes slightly more advanced structures. |
| Level 2 | B1 / B2+ | Texts with more complex grammar and varied vocabulary. Recommended for students with some fluency. |
| Level 3 | B2 / C1 | Longer, more in-depth readings with higher linguistic demands and more sophisticated topics. |
✏️ What’s the difference between A2 and A2+?
From 7 November 2025, Level 1 in Fiction Express ELT will include two reading options: A2 and A2+. Both are aimed at learners beginning to read in English but differ in their level of difficulty.
| Feature | A2 (new) | A2+ (current) |
|---|---|---|
| Difficulty | Simpler | Intermediate |
| Chapter length | ~800 words | ~1000 words |
| Grammar | Shorter sentences and basic structures | More varied structures |
| Glossary | More detailed, with examples and verb forms | Standard glossary |
| Ideal audience | Learners with an initial grasp of English | Learners who already master the basics and want to consolidate |
💡 The level previously known as A2 will now be labelled A2+, with no change in difficulty or content.
📖 How to choose the reading version
When a student opens a book in the chosen level (1, 2, or 3), they can select between versions directly from the book panel or reader. For example, in Level 1, between A2 and A2+. This allows:
-
All students to read the same book, adapted to their level.
-
The whole class to work on the same activities and quizzes without splitting the group.
-
Each learner to progress at their own pace, with a more personalised experience.
🎧 Adapted Audiobooks
Each version of the book includes its own recorded audiobook, narrated either by the author or by professional voice actors. This helps reinforce listening comprehension and pronunciation.
📅 Availability and materials
-
A2 and A2+ will be available from 7 November 2025.
-
They will be progressively added to books published up to January 2025.
-
Downloadable activities (PDF) will include differentiated A2 and A2+ versions for books published from 7 November 2025 onwards. Earlier books will keep the current documents.
-
Both sublevels (A2 / A2+) will appear in the teacher panel and library when available.
-
Books published before the change will keep the single level A2 (equivalent to A2+).
🎯 Benefits of this enhancement
This improvement allows:
-
Better support for learners with lower language proficiency.
-
Mixed-level classroom work without dividing the group.
-
More precise tracking of reading progress.
-
A more inclusive experience adapted to each student’s pace.
